Wildcats Posting Changes

WILDCAT NATION

I ran into issues with Google for having too many blog posts for the day.  They put a 24 hour captcha window that I had to use for each post in the finals.  I will do things a little differently at the national tournament.  I plan to have a blog for each game ie.  Wildcats vs St Johns 318 would be the Wildcat game on March 18th with the St John's Michigan team.  By making each game a new blog, I will avoid the captcha issue.  I will have the links to the correct game on both the National Title Run blog and the Wildcats Game Log Blog.   It should help the process go smoother.  Thanks for tuning in hope you enjoy the blogs.

game comments

We made too many unforced errors and suffered the consequences - our effort was excellent, couldn't ask for more.  We left nothing on the floor and must congratulate the Golden Eagles for playing basically what was the perfect game given the situation.  They were able to make us play their game and we didn't step up when we needed to.  I didn't expect the game to go that way.  It is a difficult time for the team, but tomorow we play again.  Today we were a couple of shots short, that is why we play the game.

Thanks for tuning in to the blog it was a great time.  You can be proud of the team they never quit. I will be back at nationals with more action-who knows maybe a national championship rather than a state championship.

cats just went to locker room as there cutom runs.

This facility seats about 1900 according to school info.  They have players on one side no bleachers open on that side, probably 50 to 60 % full on the other.  Wildcat fans on west side eagle on eastside fancy that.

there will be three refs for the game

Girl's State Title Championship Game

Tonight at 6:00 the #1 seed Huntiongton Eagles take on the #2 seed Indianapolis Trailblazers for the girl's state title.  Grace Mitchell is the leading scorer for the Trailblazers so I will post periodic scores as the game progresses.

State Championship Game Preview

It’s only fitting, that the roadblock to the Wildcats first state championship goes through the Golden Eagles.  For my first five years in the Wildcat program, the Golden Eagles owned the Wildcats – blowing us out at every opportunity – literally.  We lost thirteen games in a row to them, won one then lost three.  In those years our goal was not to win the state title, that was a lofty goal, our first priority was to beat the Golden Eagles.  In the past three years, we have erased the issue of beating them by winning six in a row and reached for the state championship.  Tonight it is within our grasp and playing the Golden Eagles will require no extra motivation on either side.  Let’s look at tonight’s matchup.

Here is the Max Preps link for the Wildcats: http://www.maxpreps.com/indiana/basketball/indianapolis-homeschool-wildcats-(indianapolis)/schedule.aspx?schoolid=471eaa05-ad84-438b-ad70-9fd0723a906a&gendersport=boys,basketball&urpath=,local,team

Here is the Max Preps link for the Golden Eagles:

http://www.maxpreps.com/indiana/basketball/eastside-golden-eagles-(indianapolis)/schedule.aspx?schoolid=05a368d5-dc56-426c-9230-49758f0615a8&gendersport=boys,basketball&urpath=,local,team

We have played them on three occasions, with the Wildcats winning all three.

November 8th  83-60, January 9th 83-65, January 17th 61-28

The Golden Eagles starters are:

 #5  Luke Wesseling 5’10” PG

#15 Kent Judy 5’9” Jr SG

#20 Josiah Murray 6’5” Sr C

#22 Kanoah Whitten 6’0” Sr F

#40 Brian Heman 5’10” Sr F

As in the previous games this weekend, the question will be the Golden Eagles deal with the pressure applied by the Cats.  So far this year the answer is no and with Brian Heman having two broken fingers, the probability is slim.  You always have to play the game to find out what will really happen.  They won an emotional game coming from behind last night followed by the victory over the Eagles this morning.  Their bench is not as deep as the Cats and we should wear them down as the game goes along on the longer court.  Huntington’s slow controlled tempo actually worked to their favor an we do not want them to dictate the flow of the game tonight.  Regardless of any of our opponent’s game plans if we execute and play our game we should control the tempo and bring home our first state title.

Game time is approximately 7:45.  Check back then and we will be ready to chase the first state championship for the Wildcats.   GO WILDCATS!

Second Game

Golden Eagles will be playing Huntington Eagles

They played twice this year with Huntington winning both by around 10 points

Brian Henman possibly the Goldenb Eagles best all around plater broke two fingers last week.  He did not dress yesterday, but is dressed and warming up today.  It remains to be seen if he will play.  Northwest gave Huntington a run, but a couple long pass layups sealed the game for Huntington. The Golden Eagles trailed most of the game and finished strong to beat Noble Whitley.

It should be a  good game.  I will not do as much game by game, but updates every 2/3 minutes during the contest with the score and comments.

In the Championship Game!!

GLOG info

Good morning to all.  Today is an historic day for the Wildcats program – getting to the Final Four has taken us a long time and we are certainly not happy just being here.  We want to pack some serious championship hardware back to Indy tonight.  Thanks for joining in today.  I apologize for my sporadic posts yesterday trying to figure out how to do this so you can make sense of it.  I scouted some GLOGs last night and have come up with a plan which should improve your experience.  I plan to GLOG both games this morning since the Eagles are in the second game and I am sure you would want to know what is happening in that game as well.  Here is the new format:

wc = Wildcats   lr = laurel rams    no caps used at all

example:

wc gets first possession ad nails three from left wing

lr turnover in back court stolen by jh

wc dustin on back cut for two

lr 42 scores in low post

etc..

When there is a stop in the action I will update time remaining in the quarter and try to make some commentary at that time.

Saturday March 7th Laurel Christian Rams Pre-game Report

Welcome to Saturday morning’s Final Four debut for the #1 seed Wildcats (34-1) against the #4 seed Laurel Christian Rams (22-6) starting at 10:am

Laurel edged Kokomo in a tightly contested contest.  Kokomo led for three quarters, but wilted under the constant pressure from the Rams.  The Rams apply pressure from start to finish, using a full court trap and both 3-2 and 2-3 zone defenses.  The Rams and Wildcats met in November with the Wildcats running away with a 104-71 win.  I don’t know what the total single game scoring record is for the ICBA Final Four, but it could be in serious jeopardy to survive this game still intact.

Here is the Max preps link for Laurel

http://www.maxpreps.com/indiana/basketball/laurel-christian-homeschool-(west-harrison)/schedule.aspx?schoolid=3439c454-c2c4-4a68-8709-e30a51509b20&gendersport=boys,basketball&urpath=,local,team

I will also give you the Wildcats Max Preps link http://www.maxpreps.com/indiana/basketball/indianapolis-homeschool-wildcats-(indianapolis)/schedule.aspx?schoolid=471eaa05-ad84-438b-ad70-9fd0723a906a&gendersport=boys,basketball&urpath=,local,team

In the other final four contest,  #2 seed Huntington takes on the # 3 seed Golden Eagles.   Both teams won hotly contested games and will meet at 11:30 following our game.  We have two teams who use pressure defense to create offensive mismatches in transition.     Our bench will provide an obstacle that they will be hard pressed to overcome.  In addition they do not have a deep bench and playing on a college size floor will take the air out of their game.   We will need to knock down threes, hit the cutters and keep pressure on their guards at all times.  It should be a very entertaining game.

Tip off is scheduled for 10:00 am – tune in about that time and we should be up and running

If we win, the Championship game has been scheduled for 7:45 pm following the girl’s championship game between the #1 Huntington Eagles and the #2 Indianapolis Trailblazers which is scheduled to start at 6:00pm.

Both games will be held at the Hutzell Athletic Center at St Francis University, 2701 Spring Street in Ft Wayne.  Directions can be found at this link - http://www.sf.edu/tour/directions.shtml

I encourage all Wildcat fans to attend, but if you can’t check back here for up to date game info.

 GO WILDCATS!

First Half Recap

Thought I could keep scoring and have it to post, action to fast to type and do that at the same time.  Cats using good defesive pressure to their advantage.  Although they had 10 personals, they were spread out and no one has more than two.  We are doing good under the boards, but it seems like we are giving up too many driving baskets or fouls.

I think I will keep giving you the play by play happenings and post them each time we have a break in the clock.    Overall Cats in control - defense pressure taking its toll and scoring has been balanced.  Bench play was excellent in the first half, Joel M, Scott, Ash and Daniel all made good contributions.

Wildcats Pre-game report

Welcome to this afternoon’s Wildcats (33-1) game with the Ft Wayne Hawks (23-14)

Ft Wayne defeated the Elkhart Hawks in a very close game this morning.  The Hawks used timely three point shooting in the first half then countered with an inside game for the second half.  They play a 3-2 or 2-3 zone the entire game.  They have a large team number wise, but did not seem to have a deep bench.  The one thing that impressed me the most was their hustle and overall desire to win when the game was on the line.

Their max preps link is  http://www.maxpreps.com/indiana/basketball/fort-wayne-homeschool-(fort-wayne)/schedule.aspx?schoolid=82e6f544-9b79-4f08-9249-6606f248906d&gendersport=boys,basketball&urpath=,local,team

Against common opponents they only have two wins vs. seven losses.

They lost to Huntington by six in their last meeting so it looks like they can be hot or cold.  It’s hot outside so I’ll settle for cold Hawks inside for this game.

In earlier action,

Kokomo defeated the Living Water Marlins while the Laurel Rams defeated the Wabash Valley Warriors by four points in a hard fought game.

On the girl’s side, The Indianapolis Trailblazers won their elite eight match.

Wildcats used their defense to build up a devastating first half lead 50-0.  Coach B was able to use his bench and keep the starters ready for the balance of the tournament.  Our bench depth will be a big help, not just here, but in the national tournament also.  In both cases, the finals are played on a larger court which benefits the Wildcats.  Crestwood was certainly showing signs of fatigue on the Xavier floor in the late second quarter and second half of our championship game in Cincinnati.

Wildcats are seeking their first final four in team history.   GO WILDCSATS!

State Tournament Update

The Wildcats won 84-24, leading at halftime by a score of 50-0 (that's right)

Four players had double figures:
DeLance 11 pts - Ashton - 10 points, Geo 10 points and Dustin 10 points

The Wildcats will play Ft Wayne Hawks at 4:00.  I will blog info on the game as it is going on.

Other winners today were Huntington and Northwest.

On the girls side, Ft Wayne and  Huntington won elite eight matches

State Tournament 4:00 game

The 4:00 game is on court 1 so I plan to blog that game.  C YA then.

Wildcats Game Log

I plan on blogging for the national tournament.  I do not know the format they will use, but will probably try out some things at Ft Wayne so I know what questions to ask.  I will try to have some game logs on this blog if you check back Friday and Saturday.
